Upgrading WorldVeg’s International Genebank for a resilient and nutritious future

2026 – 2029

Overview

The project focuses on upgrading Taiwan’s genebank collection of 55,270 accessions to international standards by accelerating the number of seed viability tests to make it fully functional.

By following the Crop Trust Key Performance Indicators, the WorldVeg germplasm collection will systematically improve the quality of its collection over the next years and link this effort to WorldVeg’s new strategy, allowing donors to monitor this improvement.

By the end of 2028, the genebank aims to have met the targets of the five key Crop Trust indicators:

  1. > 95% physical and legal availability of the collection;
  2. 85% of the collection with seed viability test data;
  3. > 95% of the WorldVeg collections is held in two locations and also in the Svalbard Global Seed Vault;
  4. > 85% of genebank accessions with seed image data; and v) Internal auditing system on quality management fully in place.
