Scaling solutions for post-harvest loss management in Western region of Kenya

2025-2027

Overview

The project, in which WorldVeg is a sub-grantee to SNV, forms part of the broader Power for Food and Partnerships programme funded by the IKEA Foundation. It aims to catalyze multi-actor partnerships and strengthen local capacities to drive the transformation of Kenya’s agri-food systems. The initiative promotes the adoption of Regenerative Agriculture (RA) and the Productive Use of Renewable Energy (PURE) through an integrated RA–PURE Nexus approach, positioning these as mutually reinforcing levers for sustainable systems change. Within this framework, WorldVeg leads the component focused on reducing post-harvest losses and enhancing the efficiency and resilience of vegetable value chains. This is achieved through the application of regenerative agriculture practices alongside renewable energy solutions. The project will strengthen the capacities of technology users, agri-SMEs, and smallholder farmers in Western Kenya, directly targeting approximately 3,600 farmers. Capacity building will be delivered through farmer field and business schools, complemented by peer-to-peer learning approaches.
