Enhancing value chains and markets of Neglected and Underutilized crop Species to contribute to Agroecological Transition in Africa (AgrEcoNUS+)

2026-2030

Overview

The AgrEcoNUS+ initiative stems from a solid foundation laid by different initiatives that have substantially contributed to the valorization of neglected and underutilized species (NUS) and the promotion of agroecological practices in West and East Africa. The project aims to improve food security and nutrition through access to nutritious and diversified diets while fostering resilient and sustainable local agri-food systems in participating communities in Africa. WorldVeg as a partner will contribute on 1) Participatory identification of NUS; 2) Analysis of gaps and development of a research strategy for Selected NUS; 3) Research and mobility programs on NUS in African and European countries; 4) Training, technical and advisory services on NUS crop systems; 5) Participatory varietal selection on selected NUS; 6) Supporting community seed banks and local seed systems; and 7) Coordination with DeSIRA+, EU, African and international agendas.
